You know how much I just love all the creatures that live around our house in the forest. But sometimes they can drive me crazy! Like Corky and Louise, our ground squirrels. I don’t mind so much when they eat my petunias. But the way they travel around our house is startling!
You see, Corky and Louise have to hide when they travel so that the hawks and owls and ravens won’t see them and eat them. So they stay very close to the house. They especially like to hide under the back steps before they run across to the shed. Sometimes when I go down the steps, they wait until my foot is just about to touch the ground, then they squeak and dash out right where I was going to step!
I think they like to make me scream and jump, because they keep doing it to me when I least expect it! They are such rascals!
I am sometimes like Corky and Louise, though. I hide from things that might hurt me. Did you know that God says that HE is our hiding place? Yes! Kind David wrote this about God: For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory. The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.” (Psalm 32:7,8, NLT)
God knows all the very best paths for us to follow, and he hides us from evil when we follow him. Do you have God’s map that shows us these paths? Do you know where it is?
God’s map is the Bible! In the Bible, God tells us how to live. He tells us all about the good paths in life. I like to memorize those paths so I will know all about them. King David said, “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you (God).” (Psalm 119:11, NLT)
When we read the map — the Bible — we learn how to please God. That protects us from bad things. It fills us with joy!
Corky and Louise had to learn all the safe paths around the house. Just like them, we have to learn the safe paths in life, too, the paths that lead to God, our hiding place.
Until our next Campfire, I’m sending you hugs & kisses!
